George Storey and His Descendants: 1725-1955

Storey Publications" This volume is about the descendants of George Storey (1725-1805), the founder of the South Carolina Branch of the Storey Family. Though we have been unable to find anything conclusive about the ancestors of our George, we feel that we belong to the vast Storey Family that lived for centuries on the boundary between Scotland and England. The Book "Storeys of Old", published early in this century in England, gives many genealogies of early Storey families. Perhaps someday we may be able to connect with one of these lines."

Fifty years ago William M. Storey and a group of his friends, relatives and researchers took on the task of charting the descendants of George Storey. This became "the family STOREY" publication and bulletins. These are valuable documents for descendants of George, and others interested in American history. This online version created by Jeff Hale in 1999 continues that remarkable effort, with an opportunity for descendants to add to the history, and perhaps fill in another 50 years of Storey history for this branch of the Storey family.

What's New!

  • NEW AND URGENT! Would you like to manage the Storey Online website? I took this over from the creator, Jeffery Hale a few years ago, but am unable to devote time to it anymore, and while it requires little or no active attention, an active webmaster is better than an absent one. Please leave a message with your email address (name_AT_yahoo.com format recommended) or email me if you would like this job. Knowledge of website maintenance is required, and design and HTML programming desireable. July 2008

STILL LOOKING FOR A NEW MANAGER. November 2011 EMAIL ME TODAY!

  • NEW! Google Books now has "The Family Storey" in its list of books.
  • Genealogy and Privacy - All birth months and days after 1930 have been removed from "the family Storey Online". This was done to help insure the privacy of possibly living individuals who's birth dates were included when this book was printed in 1955. (The latest published U.S. census is 1930.) Since "the family Storey" was distributed to the public, this data remains available in the thousands of printed copies of the book, some of which are in public libraries. This action is designed to continue to make this valuable Storey family information available to all, but to provide more privacy in the modern era. The removed data will remain for possible re-entering in the Online version at a later date. Removed birth month and day have been replaced with this: mm dd. Reader submitted data with birthdays after 1930 will also be edited, but retained in the unabridged version for possible publishing at a future date. Dec 2006
  • Interest has been expressed in getting an original "the family Storey" book. If you have a book you would like to dispose of, or if you are interested in purchasing or receiving a book, please post a message in the Comments section. Related to this, I hope to provide a PDF version of the original book for download on this website in the near future for those without an original book. Nov 2006
  • Obituaries and photos of Millard and Boude Storey added. Millard was the father of William M. Storey, the Editor of this book. May 2006
  • Marriage Certificate of Davy Crockett to Margaret Elder, perhaps a Storey, found and shown on Antiques Roadshow. May 2006
  • Work on adding all the additions and corrections submitted since 1999 has begun as of March 2006. These will add valuable information to the "family Storey" and all users of this site are encouraged to submit their information for including in the book. All changes are highlighted in colors, and referenced back to the submitting comment. Mar 2006

"One of the saddest things that presents itself in a work of this kind is the realization that we are describing a person's long and useful life with just a date or a sentence - some among us have lived and served with such distinction that they are entitled to a great deal more space than this work will permit."

"In the early part of the 18th Century, three men named George were born. One was destined to become King of England. Another was destined to become Father of His Country. The third was 'pre' destined to be the ancestor of some 12,000 souls surnamed Storey!"
